PTLLS –  Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector

Introduction

An  Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector covers the basics  of teaching in continuing adult education in a wide range of contexts –  including how to plan sessions, motivate learners and use a variety of  assessment methods.

It  is the first step towards official practitioner status – a full licence to  teach in the lifelong learning sector.

Entry Requirements

There  are no formal entry requirements for the PTLLS, except meeting a level of  literacy and numeracy requirements in order to enrol for the course.

This  Award is for new entrants to the Lifelong Learning Sector – you do not need any  prior teaching experience or qualifications. It also suits people working in  the area already who want to gain official qualifications.

You  should have an idea of what subject you want to teach and either have or be  working towards, a qualification in that area.

Course Content

The  award includes involves just one core unit, worth six credits.

The  qualification covers mandatory and optional units:

• Roles, responsibilities and relationships in  lifelong learning
• Understanding inclusive learning and teaching in  lifelong learning
• Using inclusive learning and teaching approaches  in lifelong learning
• Facilitate learning and development in groups
• Facilitate learning and development for  individuals
• Principles of assessment in lifelong learning.

CTLLS – Certificate  to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector

Introduction

The  Certificate to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector is designed as a  qualification that will equip a wide range of teachers, trainers, tutors, and  facilitators to deliver learning and meets all new statutory requirements. Candidates  will come from a variety of vocational backgrounds but will all have access to  30 teaching hours throughout the duration of the course.

The  Level 3 and 4 qualifications provide a practical foundation for all those in a  teaching role, with learners being introduced to the key principals of teaching  and learning.

The  Level 3 is developed to meet the requirements of the Further Education Teacher’s  Qualifications (England) Regulations 2007 and related contractual requirements.  Ideal for those looking for a career change and taking their first step in  their teaching career.

The  Level 4 is a legal requirement for Further Education (FE) teachers in England.  The qualification will prepare those interested in working as an associate  teacher in the further education sector, to help you progress as a teacher.

The  award includes three mandatory units worth 18 credits, plus 6-18 credits from a  selection of optional units.

DTLLS – Diploma  to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector

Introduction

The  Diploma to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector is designed to prepare you for  a successful career as a teacher in your chosen subject in further education.  This is a generic teaching qualification developed particularly for the full  teaching role in the further education sector – but it can be used more widely  along with a separate subject specific qualification.

The  award includes mandatory and optional units including:

• Wider professional practice
• Enabling learning through assessment
• Applying theories and principles for planning and  enabling inclusive learning and teaching
