BECOMING AN ASSESSOR

The first step towards becoming an  assessor involves completing the Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance (TAQA) qualifications we offer, we also  recommend taking up a teaching qualification to improve career prospects in the  lifelong learning sector. The TAQA courses replace the A1 and V1, assessor and  verifier awards and will help you get qualified to gain entry into assessor  roles.

The assessing qualifications  options include:

  • Level 3  Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)
  • Level 3  Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (9 credits)
  • Level 3  Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (9 credits)
  • Level 3  Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (15 credits)

The TAQA qualification will help  develop your competencies and knowledge of the principles of assessment and how  to improve assessment practices within an organisation. The qualification can  take up to 6-12 months depending on  your availability. The course can be delivered either at our offices or through  distance learning options.

FINDING  WORK AS AN ASSESSOR

This qualification addresses a  national issue of skill shortages in assessing across various sectors. This has  led to an increased demand for qualified assessors in local colleges,  universities, and other education and training organisations.
Qualified assessors with competencies  to deliver NVQ/QCF frameworks following industry standards are an asset and  highly sought after by these organisations; to train employees and apprentices  to improve their skills.

On successful completion of this  course, depending on your area of expertise NVQ/QCF Assessors you may receive a  starting salary ranging from 19- 24 K (FTE) plus bonuses and company  benefits. Other Assessing jobs could earn from 25 35K (FTE).

Self-employed assessors have the  opportunity to choose working hours, pay and rewards with organisations as per  their requirements.

Further progression opportunities  could include completing courses to qualify for internal verifier or teaching positions  in the lifelong learning sector.
